Our 24-bed critical access hospital employs 170 associates and serves Bremen, Indiana, and the surrounding communities. As part of Beacon Health System, patients have access to providers, resources and services from across the entire health system.
The hospital provides the community with: Emergency Department; diagnostic imaging and lab; radiology, including MRI, CT and ultrasound; surgery; obstetrics; sleep lab; mammography; physical and occupational therapy; occupational health; swing bed services; and infusion therapy.
Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, we provide affordable, personalized, quality emergency care to the community, with an average wait time of about 10 minutes. The Emergency Department’s public entrance is located on the east side of the building with a separate ambulance entrance on the north. Wheelchairs and assistance are available for those who need help entering the hospital. Our physicians and nursing staff are highly trained in emergency and urgent care. Physicians at Bremen’s hospital also practice emergency care at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, the only Level II trauma center in our region. This means you have highly skilled experts right at home, and our years of experience and caring attitudes allow us to understand and meet all of your needs. With our enhanced ER services and teams, we’re able to keep patients close to home for their recovery. For cases requiring specialized care, patients have access to all other experts in the Beacon system. When necessary, patients can be transported to another Beacon critical care facility by ambulance or helicopter, depending on the severity and patient needs. Our Code STEMI program allows us to transfer acute heart attack patients who require specialized care to Memorial Hospital for rapid cardiac catheterization.
Our visiting hours are 24 hours a day, seven days a week. One person is welcome to spend the night in the patient's room, unless the patient's condition warrants additional family time. The patient's condition may require isolation and, in those cases, visitation may be limited. We encourage family members of pediatric patients to stay with the infant/child at all times, if possible. Each room features a couch that transforms into a bed for your comfort.

We strive to make patient registration as simple and convenient as possible, while making sure the information collected is accurate in order to avoid any billing issues later in the process. We have registrars in multiple areas of the hospital to assist you. It is important you arrive prepared, with all of your personal information and your insurance card(s). It is our policy to verify all of your data at each visit and to copy or scan your insurance card(s) each time you are registered. The filing of insurance claims is based on the information provided when you register. Any corrections or changes to your information after registration are the patient’s responsibility.
There are 18 private patient rooms, each with its own private bathroom, in the Medical/Surgical unit. Each room has its own thermostat that can be adjusted to meet your specific needs. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is one nurse to four patients.
The Community Hospital of Bremen Nutrition Services Department provides nutritional support and food services for patients, family members and visitors. Nutrition counseling by a registered dietitian is offered, as well as weight management classes. We offer the following therapeutic diets: heart healthy, consistent carbohydrate, GI soft/low residue, mechanical soft, renal, and pureed, in addition to various liquid consistencies. We provide room service for our patients, with a variety of menu choices and flexible in meal times. Family members and visitors may order a guest tray as well. New parents receive a special congratulatory dinner! Also, the Bremen Hospital Cafe is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., located just past the main lobby. Outdoor dining is available, weather permitting.
Yes! In addition to a selection of cards, books and get well items, the gift shop offers new baby gifts and a unique selection of merchandise, including seasonal items. A variety of snacks are available as well. The gift shop is staffed daily by hospital auxiliary members. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Through service and fundraising, the Bremen Hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer organization promoting the advancement of welfare for the hospital. The auxiliary meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the hospital cafe. Volunteer opportunities include: gift shop workers, light gardening, pie and candy sales, Pack-A-Backpack Campaign and the Holiday Bazaar.
